Confronting the History of Redlining

Throughout U.S. History, the opportunities denied to Black Americans have notably included access to credit and other financial services. Well into the 20th century, the practice of “redlining” effectively cut off minority groups and neighborhoods from mortgage financing. While redlining has ended, the damage remains: The inability to pass down wealth built through homeownership is a major reason Black families have one-tenth the wealth on average of white families.
